Bible Question: I have read the begining notes in the NASB, NIV, and other translations. I still feel the answer is inadequate for me, I wonder why the NASB and others like NIV does not take a big step, in what seems to me, to be more accurate, and use YHWH for LORD. I think most congreations are now more used to hearing the word Yahweh than in the past. THE NEW JERUSALEN BIBLE, uses it as Yahweh. This is a Catholic translation, and I find is refreshing to see the LORD used as Yahweh. I do not agree with the total translation. I would like to see the LORD refered to as Yahweh. Maybe someone knows of a good translation that says Yahweh. |
Bible Answer: Hello farout, I would say that reason we don't use YHWH is because it's Hebrew, and we speak English. To be the most accurate, I would be more inclined to use "I AM" in those places. One translation that has Yahweh is World English Bible (Rainbow Missions, Inc.) http://www.ebible.org/bible/WEB/ I really don't know how good it is. Steve |
