Bible Question:
Why is it that most religions agree that we are supposed to follow the new testament and to forget about the old, but then I hear the very same people from time to time quoting the same old testament. so do we follow the old and add the new? or do we forget completely about the old. |
Bible Answer: Martha, I don’t think there are really teaching of Jesus Christ that encourage people to forget Old Testament. If you heard that kind of teaching I am sure that is based on thier own conclusions and not from the scriptures. Although it was mentioned: Heb 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. Let me put here some example: Mt 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Mt 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Mt 17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Mt 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. In that paticular instances, peter suggested to the lord that he is going to made three tabernacles. At verse 17:5 it was mentioned"While he yet spake" (Peter)behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him." What is this mean, HEAR YE HIM. Why the God the Father not telling to Peter "Hear Them" but instead hear Him. Meaning any teaching of Moses that not included in the Teaching of Jesus Christ it is not important to us and the Teaching of Jesus Christ are we are going to follow. What is the teaching of Moses that included in the teaching of Christ: Le 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. De 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might There no mistake with this teaching it is included in the two great commandments that given to us by Jesus Christ. WHAT IS THE TEACHING OF MOSES THAT NOT INCLUDED TO THE TEACHING OF JESUS CHRIST? there are too many but i will put some of that here: Ex 31:15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. But Jesus Christ change the implementation regarding Sabbath, He and his deciples do things in Sabbath. Lu 6:1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. Lu 6:6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. Lu 6:7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. Lu 6:9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? Another example: Adultery is punishable by death in the law of Moses, but Jesus Christ change the implementation of it. Joh 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Joh 8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? Joh 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. If Jesus Christ allowed those people to stone that woman to death it is the same thing that He allows those people to disobey the law “Thou shall not kill” which is included in the ten Commandments. I think we are not really reject all of teaching of the Old Testament but Jesus Christ just change some implementation of such teaching. I hope it would helps, God bless, Johnny |
