Bible Note: Greetings Luis! What then do you do with 1 Cor. 9:14: "In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel." Here, Paul explicitly states that those who preach the gospel should receiving their living from their ministry. Jesus also says in Mt. 10:10, "take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep." Finally, 1 Tim. 5:17 says, "The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, 'Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain,' and 'The worker deserves his wages.'" From these verses, it seems quite clear that those who serve in full time ministry are to 'make their living' from that ministry. Of course, God Himself established this precedent with the OT temple, where the priests received their 'living' from a portion of the gifts and money brought to the temple.
