Bible Question:
Thanks for the help... interesting passage... Unfortunately, this is not what I seem to be searching. I recall that the passage had more to do with identifying a false teacher/priest/prophet. A verse or two before talked about helping those in need. Something like: If a christian is travelling from their home, you should take them in and take care of them for three days. If, on the other hand, they ask for money/charity then they do not come with the word/light of god (thereby can be identified as false teachers.) I realize I am paraphrasing completely (since I cannot remember the verse). The discussion came up between myself and some friends when we were trying to figure out who to give some found money to (very small amount, but money nonetheless.) One person said, Give it to me and I will find a good charity for it. This led to the verse in quesion, which I am now trying to look for. |
Bible Answer: Greetings, dhuskins, I "think" this is what you are looking for??? Although it is "three years", but the rest of it sounds like what you were describing. Let me know if this is it, or perhaps you already found it??? (Acts 20:28-38) Acts 20:28 "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. Acts 20:29 "I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; Acts 20:30 and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Acts 20:31 "Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears. Acts 20:32 "And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. Acts 20:33 "I have coveted no one's silver or gold or clothes. Acts 20:34 "You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my own needs and to the men who were with me. Acts 20:35 "In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' " Acts 20:36 When he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. Acts 20:37 And they began to weep aloud and embraced Paul, and repeatedly kissed him, Acts 20:38 grieving especially over the word which he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. And they were accompanying him to the ship. Crucified in HIM, Luis |
