NASB | 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 1:9 If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose]. |
Bible Question (short): True...but what about 1 John 1:9? |
Question (full): Thanks again for your reply. So, are you saying that forgiveness is much like redemption, justification, sanctification, reconciliation, etc. in that it is something that we, as Christians, HAVE in Christ as opposed to something we GET from Christ? If that is so, then again, who is 1 John 1:9 written to? Your conclusions seem correct. I appreciate the scripture references. But why doesn't 1 John 1:9 fit with the conclusions? Why doesn't 1 John 1:9 fit with 1 John 2:12 - '...your sins HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN YOU (past tense) for His name's sake?' Thanks for your help. |
