AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 2:9 ¶ But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A CONSECRATED NATION, A [special] PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Bible Question:
1 Pet 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1 Pet 2:10 for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. I'm weak on my chruch history, but wasn't the RCC opposed to the Protestants' view of the priesthood of all believers? And what is the priesthood of believers and what is some of the biblical data that supports this teaching? Peace, |
Bible Answer: Greetings Lionstrong: In 1 Peter 2:5 "ye also are lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices to God by Jesus Christ" Each believer is a living stone built into the spiritual house which is founded upon the chief corner stone our Lord Jesus Christ V6. As individuals we have been brought into a unique relationship to God through Christ. This spiritual relationship is in contrast to the relationship which Israel had through the Aaronic priesthood. In Christ believers have a great high priest who has entered into the holiest of all with his own precious blood on our behalf. We than as believer priests have access to God himself through the mediator of the New Covenant Christ. Heb. 10: 19-20 In Hebrews 13:15-16 "By him let us offer the sacrifice of Praise to God continually, that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased" Our responsibility is to sacifice our entire being to him, our body Rom. 12:1, our praise Heb. 13:15, our substance Rom 12:13 and our service Heb.13:6. I have heard it said that a "holy priesthood" deals with our worship and a "royal priesthood" our service. Maybe others will provide other thoughts. Robert |
