NASB | 1 Peter 2:24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 2:24 He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross [willingly offering Himself on it, as on an altar of sacrifice], so that we might die to sin [becoming immune from the penalty and power of sin] and live for righteousness; for by His wounds you [who believe] have been healed. |
Subject: Healing by Strips physical or not |
Bible Note: Hello Fritzeverett, Hello..i would like to comment on your statement if I may. "I know that Paul did not receive a healing because Gods grace was sufficient. Corinthians 12:9." Please read, if you have not already, my post #81017. 2 Corinthians is often used to confirm sickness as God's will and instrument of discipline. However, if you re read 2 Corinthians carefully researching the word "suffering' and giving no consideration to the traditional teaching, you may find this is not the case. I do suggest reading the entire book. when I did this study, I opened my Bible and asked the Holy Spirit to help me read it as if for the first time blocking any presuppositions and previous commentaries I had read. As I read I was careful not to interject any words or beliefs and to take the scriptures purely based on what they actually say. I suggest you try that as well. The reason you should reconsider this conclusion is because if you accept this common interpretation of 2 Corinthians (the entire book) your understanding of other scripture in regards to healing will be influenced by this. For instance, you say you are still considering the issue of healing being provided through the atonement. If Corinthians tells us Paul was suffering a physical sickness or desease given him by God, or Satan and allowed by God then the issue of healing and the atonement is already concluded, healing is conditional and not provided for everyone because we have a Biblical exception. Please consider two points. Does scripture tell us what the thorn was? Does scripture tell us why God did not remove it? I would be interested to hear your comments after you read the thread.
