AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 3:2 For we all stumble and sin in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says [never saying the wrong thing], he is a perfect man [fully developed in character, without serious flaws], able to bridle his whole body and rein in his entire nature [taming his human faults and weaknesses]. |
Bible Question: Do you think it is possible for a Christain to go for a period of time(a day)and not sin. I ask this because I hear so many people(churches, RC Sproll sp?)say we sin every day in word thought or deed. It weem so flippant to say well we all sin every day...But don't we have the power to overcome sin. We are no longer slaves to sin but to righteousness. God provides a way out of temptation so that we can bear it. |
Bible Answer: You seem to have left out the sin of omission, that is, not doing that which we know to be good. Who could possibly claim in any one day of his or her life to end the day and go to bed at night knowing for an absolute fact that they had done all the good they could possibly do? Only our Lord could lay claim to that and He did it as a full-time job and literally exhausted himself at times, doing it. Remember, you, I and all other Americans enjoy an incredibly good lifestyle and don't really have to work so much...we could spend more of our leisure time doing good and most of us don't do it, including me. Once you understand how utterly detestable sin is to God, then you begin to get an understanding of how much we owe to God. He forgives us and we (at least I) still fail to live up to his standards. When we finally mature to the point to thank our God for every breath we take and all the many other blessings that shower upon us, then maybe we can get close to that high standard set by our Lord and Saviour. But as for me and my house, I thank God Almighty, His grace covers all of my sin as long as I'm keeping Him in my prayers every day. |
