AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 3:2 For we all stumble and sin in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says [never saying the wrong thing], he is a perfect man [fully developed in character, without serious flaws], able to bridle his whole body and rein in his entire nature [taming his human faults and weaknesses]. |
Bible Question: Do you think it is possible for a Christain to go for a period of time(a day)and not sin. I ask this because I hear so many people(churches, RC Sproll sp?)say we sin every day in word thought or deed. It weem so flippant to say well we all sin every day...But don't we have the power to overcome sin. We are no longer slaves to sin but to righteousness. God provides a way out of temptation so that we can bear it. |
Bible Answer: Hi, Ruthiew! Our call is to be perfect as the Father is Perfect. But as John points it out: 1 John 1:8; God has already stated that there is no one just, not a single one. Was God wrong? Just because the Holy Spirit has been given to us we are not automatically incapable of sinning. We are living in the Light, but we ourselves are not the Light: (1 John 1:5-7). Jesus put it simpler: I am the vine, you are the branches... so if we stick with Jesus, even though we ourselves are not clean, we can be cleansed. Am I claiming a right to sin?, certainly not!: Romans 6:1-14. But I am attesting to God's Word, that since we are in the flesh, and we are not God, we will be tempted and we will sin. The difference between a Christian and an unbeliever commiting a sin is that the Christian (those in fellowship with the Light) seek to repent and become right with God, through Christ while struggling not to sin; the unbeliever, having no one above him/her to answer to, relishes in both the act (sin) and the disobedience (rejection of all commandment). Paul explains this battle of the will (spirit vs. flesh) in Romans 7:14-25. And he augments our capacity not to sin with the following provisions: Ephisians 6:10-18. Remember, "There is nothing I cannot do in the One who stengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) So, when are we able not to sin? When we are in Jesus! When do we sin? When we succumb to the flesh. God Bless! |
