NASB | Hebrews 7:27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 7:27 who has no day by day need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices, first of all for his own [personal] sins and then for those of the people, because He [met all the requirements and] did this once for all when He offered up Himself [as a willing sacrifice]. |
Subject: The sinless sacrifice; He is holy |
Bible Note: Hi Tim, I think that Hebrews 7:26 and 27 definitely shows the contrast between the holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners High Priest and the high priests who offer up sacrifices. It is an impossibility in my mind to consider a rendering of "His sins". This is the Son, made perfect forever, not the weak high priests. Verse 28 Further, Hebrews 7:24, "but He, on the other hand, because He abides forever, holds His priesthood permanently." Hebrews 7:17, "For it is witnessed of Him, "Thou art a *(Priest) forever According to the order of Melchizedek." Hebrews 7:21b, "The Lord has sworn And will not change His mind, 'Thou art a Priest forever.';" so much the more also (Jesus) has become the **guarantee of a better covenant." Hebrews 8:6b, "by as much as (He) is also the **mediator of a better covenant,..." Hebrews 9:15, "And for this reason (He) is the **mediator of a new covenant,... Hebrews 9:11, "But when Christ appeared as a High (Priest) of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself WITHOUT BLEMISH to God, cleanse your conscience from the dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason (He) is the mediator of a new covenant,.." ***As far as Hebrews 7:27 is concerned, I think that the most important phrase determining that it is talking about the high priests is "who does not need **daily". Hebrews 9:28, "so (Christ) also, having been offered **once to bear the sins of many,..." Hebrews 9:25, "nor was it that He should offer Himself **often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood not his own." The Son came to die for us, a holy sacrifice, now to appear in heaven itself in the presence of God for us. Hebrews 6:20, "where (Jesus) has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." . Psalm 110:4, "The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind, 'Thou art a *Priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.' The (Lord) is at Thy right hand;..." From the heart, Ray |
