NASB | Hebrews 7:27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 7:27 who has no day by day need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices, first of all for his own [personal] sins and then for those of the people, because He [met all the requirements and] did this once for all when He offered up Himself [as a willing sacrifice]. |
Subject: The sinless sacrifice; He is holy |
Bible Note: Greetings Raven! I did a lot of reading on this verse today! There is a tricky point in the translation. I have tried to find mention of it in any of my resources, but thus far I haven't been able. Here is the tricky part. The Greek says, "Who does not have by day a necessity, as the high priests, to offer up a sacrfice first for (his own or their own) sins thereafter for the of the people, for this He did once for all offering up Himself." The tricky part concerns the translation of the phrase translated as "his own". This phrase in the Greek is 'twn idiwn'. It is a feminine, plural, genititive, adjective. It is feminine because it modifies 'sins' which is also feminine. It may also be plural because it modifies 'sins'. If this is the case, then is clearly refer to Christ. However, I have found places in Scripture where 'idios' in the plural can be translated 'their own'. If this is the case, then it would be refering to the plural high priests. The only problem is that I haven't found enough information to say either way! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
