AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 13:17 ¶ Obey your [spiritual] leaders and submit to them [recognizing their authority over you], for they are keeping watch over your souls and continually guarding your spiritual welfare as those who will give an account [of their stewardship of you]. Let them do this with joy and not with grief and groans, for this would be of no benefit to you. |
Subject: Why is marijuana use prohibited? |
Bible Note: Jini: This topic has been addressed in much detail before. There is no cogent reason to take it up again. The reasoning you use is far from new and it is flawed. You may as well argue that the Bible does not condemn the use of rope to choke someone. If the proscription against the use of pot cannot be justified biblically (but I think it very well can be argued that the Bible condemns the misuse or perverted use of a number of things), then it is also certain that your conclusions cannot be justified either biblically or by the use of reason. The Bible does not specificlly prohibit drinking hemlock tea or eating certain poisonous plants of the nightshade family -- all of them plants as natural as cannabis -- or inviting termites in to eat your house down, or ripping off down the road at 100 miles an hour in a snowstorm. But God did endow us with common sense and a certain amount of human wisdom and discernment; and the Bible does teach that Chrisitians are bought with a price, are not their own, and that the body is the temple of the indwelling Spirit of God. If it is your wish to attempt to justify the use of mind-altering drugs for yourself or for others, that is your business, but this web site, which is dedicated to the study of the Bible, is decidedly not the place to attempt it. --Hank |
