Bible Question: With the Holy Spirit indwelling believers, why do we not all come to the same conclusions on the interpretation of various passages of Scripture? Why are there disagreements on the interpretation of Scripture? |
Bible Answer: Kalos I think the answer is the fact few if any of us pay the price, therefore few if any of us are completely lead of the Holy Spirit, therefore various other things effect the interpretation we develop and that is why there is conflicting views. To be totally and completely lead of the Holy Spirit requires a constant interaction with God. We live in a world that affords very few of us that luxury. We have jobs, families, social pressures, governmental pressures, etc that detract from such a relationship. Then there are personal desires, prejudices, biases, and etc that also detract from a perfect relationship with Christ. Often we are in such a hurry to get an answer many times we run from God’s foot stool with only half the lesson learned. Also one of the easiest things is to claim to have heard from God. I often meet people that claim such but as I listen to what they say, watch how they act, and discern their spirit I know they no more heard from God than the serial killer did that claimed God told him to kill everyone. In church government, we often see the pastor and the governing board that are in disagreement and both claim to have heard from God. I sometimes wonder how the many of the board members have time to hear from God, their lives is so busy. I have had God reveal scripture to me over a period of 10 – 15 years and what He showed me in the beginning had I voiced it would have appeared to be in conflict with what God has shown me later. Yet when view in it’s entirety is harmonious and contains no conflict. I agree with Emmaus as long as man decides under the “leading of Holy Spirit” we will get further and further from the truth. God did not make man to be island and God did place Pastors, Teachers, Prophets, Evangelist, and Apostles in the church so men wouldn’t run off in various directions all claiming to have heard from the Holy Spirit. I personally think the church needs to study early church history and use the doctrine and interpretation that was developed by them as a basis for doctrine and interpretation today. EdB |
