Bible Question: I am struggling with how to make observations of bible text. How to really get in and dig it up. Any hints as to how to read more into the words? I am in a class, and I read it and read it and read it, and I don't know what the observations would be. |
Bible Answer: (part 3) What kinds of questions are we to ask when attempting to pull the deeper meaning out of a passage of Scripture? The most important standard questions are the following: 1. Ask questions to get definition: Who or what is this? What does this [term, phrase, sentence, item] mean? What is involved in this [term, phrase, sentence, item]? What is the significance of this? 2. Ask questions to learn REASONS: Why is this so? What is the purpose? 3. Ask questions to understand the MEANS: How is this done? 4. Explore implications and assumptions with questions: What is implied by this? What does this assume? 5. Ask the other questions regarding place and time as they are appropriate. For more information on coming up with good questions to ask yourself when studying Scripture (and finding their answers), then please ask, and I will share more with you. But at this time, it is getting very late, and I am going to hit the sack. Blessings to you, Makarios |
