Subject: A divorced pastor in ministry? |
Bible Note: Tim: I'll be the first to admit that what I THINK and what I DO NOT THINK is a matter of no consequence. What matters is what the Bible says when taken at face value and when Scripture is compared with Scripture. The fact is divorce is NOT the unforgivable sin. Many churches have ruled that in their organization divorce prohibits one from serving as a pastor. But is this what the Bible really teaches? "Some believe that Paul here [in 1 Tim. 3:2] excludes divorced men from church leadership. That again ignores the fact that this qualification does not deal with marital status. Nor does the Bible prohibit all remarriage after divorce (Matt 5:31,32; 19:9; 1 Cor 7:15)" (John MacArthur). Grace to you, kalos |
