Bible Question: Any thoughts/interpretations on "the church of the living God, the pillar and stay of the Truth?" |
Bible Answer: "church" as defined by Webster Dictionry is: 1: a building for public and especially Christian worship. What "Church" means in the early christian tradition "church" is the House of: God or Worship. Jesus promised, "I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). Meaning his church will never be destroyed until his return. FOR JESUS IS GOD with supernatural powers SO TO BELIEVED In APOSTACY (Mormons)IS A BIG LIE don't you think? Jesus promised he would not leave us orphans (John 14:18) but would send the Holy Spirit to guide and protect us (John 15:26). I believed that the church he build is being guaranteed by the Holy Spirit. His Church is Holy (Eph. 5:25–27, Rev. 19:7–8) By his grace Jesus makes the Church holy, just as he is holy. This doesn’t mean that each member is always holy. Jesus said there would be both good and bad members in the Church (John 6:70), and not all the members would go to heaven (Matt. 7:21–23). But the Church itself is holy because it is the source of holiness and is the guardian of the special means of grace Jesus established, read Eph. 5:26. SO I PERESONALLY DISAGREE THE SAYING THAT "I AM THE CHURCH" or "WE ARE THE CHURCH" we must instead say " I AM A MEMBER OF HIS CHURCH" or "WE ARE MEMBERS OR PART OF HIS MYSTICAL BODY" The Fathers of the Church spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, defended the Church in apologetic writing and fought the many heresies of the first six centuries of Christianity. These men, also called Apostolic Fathers, gave special witness to the faith, some dying the death of a martyr. Like Jesus who referred to Abraham as a spiritual father (Luke 16: 24) and St. Paul, who referred to himself in the same terms (1 Cor 4: 15), the Fathers were zealous for the word of God. Their writings are a testimony to the faith of the early Church, yet many Christians are unfamiliar with the work of Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp of Smyrna, Justin the Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Origen, Cyprian of Carthage, Athanasius, Ephraim, Cyril of Jerusalem, Hilary of Poitiers or Gregory the Great to name of few of the early Fathers. We must read their writings to interpret the Bible correctly as in Acts 8:30-31 and 2 Peter 1:20-21. I Think it's arrogant to say that we have a better interpretations than these men from the early Century. Do you know that Polycarp of Smyrna is a student of John the Evangelist? Part of my studies are from The Bible (KJV-RSV-ABS and Douay-Rheims), C.S. Lewis books and "The Faith of the Early Church Fathers" as Translated by William A. Jurgens |
