Bible Note: Justme (justyou?), My opinion doesn't matter. The bible teaches, as you know, that the church (the believers) are to remember the poor and needy. See Rom. 15:26 and Gal. 2:10 for examples. But, that is to be tempered by what I wrote earlier. Wisdom is required. I know what you mean. I lived in a 1977 Datsun for six months myself once. I know what poor means. In my opinion, given the miserable state of our economy, it would be wise for those who can work to consider employment in other cities around the country, Des Moines or Omaha for example. There are a few cities where this recession has not yet hit very hard. Those who are disabled do have it hard and should first sign up at their Goodwill employment agency. (I don't know if every city has one of these. But, the Portland, Oregon Goodwills do.) Then go to the state or county aid office and see what all they can get until the can get a job. Even with a job they will likely end up living off of a combination of low pay and state welfare. That's a sad truth. |
