Bible Note: Hi Cheri, and all! Just to be clear, I don't personally agree that the church necessarily plays a part in this particular restraining of the mystery of iniquity. I don't say that the church can't be partaking in that role, just that I don't see that supported by the Scriptures. This is the only place that I am aware of that speaks of this restraining, and the restrainer is spoken of using masculine and neuter genders, but not the feminine gender of the church. It could be that the restrainer ceases restraining before or after the church is removed, or the restrainer could cease restraining as the church is being removed. I just want to say that the Scriptures do not explicitly make the connection between the restraining of the mystery of iniquity and the presence of the church. At least as far as I can tell.
