Bible Note: Greetings EdB! I am really not trying to be a wise guy, but what then is the purpose of the forum? There isn't any believe that someone, somewhere will not disagree with or view differently. Personally, I see several possible benefits to any debate (no matter how long it has been around): 1) Exposing new believers to viewpoints with which they may not be familiar! Not everyone is at the same level of experience! What, to some of us, may be old hat, may be totally new to some. 2) Sharpen our undersanding of various doctrines! All doctrine has practical benefits in real life. Even issues like the end times can and do effect how we live our lives. By discussing these issues with others, we can sharpen our understanding of these doctrines. 3) Possibly change viewpoints! I do believe it is possible for someone to change their viewpoints. I have been a Christian for almost 32 years now. Over those years, my views have changed and evolved. I try to be open to what Scripture says, not what I want to believe. So, if someone presents me with a case from Scripture that is credible, I would readily change my position, especially on non-essential doctrines. I agree that we should stay away from purely philosophical debates. But, doctrine is a matter of Scripture, not just opinion. I believe that such discussion can be profitable as long as we remember to act in Christian love. If we can't discuss doctrine, then what is the purpose of a Bible Study Forum?
