Subject: In Jesus' name...except baptism? |
Bible Note: Hi John, But is does say we are "to be born again" We must die first then be buried and then rise again and this is done in Baptism. Repentance is the Death Put under the water is the burial Coming out of the water is the resurrection It also says if a man is not born of the water and of the Spirit he shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. I am not trying to change anyones mind, I am only trying to get people to think things over. I like these boards as it gives me things to think over. One thing that I don't like is when it becomes a competition among Christians as to who is right, our common goal should be that we all make it to heaven and not this "i am right and going to heaven and you are wrong and your not" attitude some have. I hope I am wrong about what I think and that ALL who just "believe" and nothing else, go to heaven. BUT my sutudies lead me to believe Baptism is essential for salvation. I appreciated your answer and saw no condemnation in it at all towards me so my comments are not at all directed towards you. One more thing, I agree we are saved by grace through faith and it says not by works lest we boast. It is saying we can't work our way into heaven as was the reason for the law, to show people they could not "work" their way into heaven or should I say "be good enough to have no sin" Baptism is not a work just like repentance is not a work but I think you will agree repentance is essential for salvation. If you are faith only for salvation then repentance can not be needed as it would fall under "works" or should I say some "act" in order to be saved. |
