NASB | Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always]. |
Bible Question:
Col 3 has the objective of instructing the Colossians in their daily living as a Christian. And also on how they should live in their different roles and relationship with men. Thus, 3:15 has intention of living harmony with the people too. "to which you are called" is in the middle of the whole sentence. "Let the peace of God rule in your hearts ... and be thankful". It is interesting to see that many of us use this as means to illustrate decision making and determining if the plans one has is of God. Q. What is peace of God? Will it be of a feeling of rest? Then Jonah is fleeing from God's will was also in peace. He was sleeping in midst of a storm! So is feelings of peace a good measure to say God is pleased / in favour of your decision/plan? |
Bible Answer: And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ's] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always]. AMPLIFIED Colossians 3:15 In this verse, if the peace of Christ means "your feelings", then the verse would mean: Let your feelings rule in your hearts. Let your feelings decide and settle with finality all questions that arise in your minds.
