NASB | Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always]. |
Bible Question:
Col 3 has the objective of instructing the Colossians in their daily living as a Christian. And also on how they should live in their different roles and relationship with men. Thus, 3:15 has intention of living harmony with the people too. "to which you are called" is in the middle of the whole sentence. "Let the peace of God rule in your hearts ... and be thankful". It is interesting to see that many of us use this as means to illustrate decision making and determining if the plans one has is of God. Q. What is peace of God? Will it be of a feeling of rest? Then Jonah is fleeing from God's will was also in peace. He was sleeping in midst of a storm! So is feelings of peace a good measure to say God is pleased / in favour of your decision/plan? |
Bible Answer: Dear Mr. Yew, Is it possible to demonstrate from the Scripture that peace is simply "a feeling?" I did not get the impression that Brother Tim meant that the feeling of peace should be the guide. Even his three points were not about feelings. (Love in the Scripture is always active, not simply emotional.) In Him, Doc |
