NASB | Deuteronomy 24:4 then her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the LORD, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Deuteronomy 24:4 then her former husband who [first] sent her away may not take her again as his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an outrage before the LORD, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance. |
Bible Question: There seems to be several instances in Deut that no longer apply to our lives. Is this verse any different? |
Bible Answer: When we look at divorce, we must take into account all the passages that speak about it. We must understand that God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16). Divorce is tied to the seventh commandment (Ex 20:14; Matthew 19:9). Divorce is sin. So, on the one hand, it seems like your question is, "do two wrongs make a right?". No, of course not. See also Matthew 5:32. I think Deut 24:1-4 still applies. Why do you ask? |
