NASB | Ephesians 5:33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 5:33 However, each man among you [without exception] is to love his wife as his very own self [with behavior worthy of respect and esteem, always seeking the best for her with an attitude of lovingkindness], and the wife [must see to it] that she respects and delights in her husband [that she notices him and prefers him and treats him with loving concern, treasuring him, honoring him, and holding him dear]. Subject: Submit . . . unless it hurts? |
Bible Note: Thnk you so much for your response. I would naturally agree with you. But, as I implied, I'm trying to get past thinking "naturally." And I'm really hungry for scripture to help me resolve this question. Do you know any scripture that would support the views you expressed, (that I would naturally tend to agree with?) I'm specifically looking for scripture that relieves a wife of the resposibility under God to submit to her husband because it pains, injures, or even kills her. If a married woman gets saved, and her abusive husband remains unsaved, leaving him seems to fly in the face of scripture. (1 Cor 7:13 And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, she must not send her husband away. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy. (1 Pet 3:1 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives,) Is there anything I'm missing? Thanks, -srchng |
