Bible Question (short): Who/what determines inaccurate doctrine? |
Question (full): Emmaus: I can appreciate the quote "what divides us is inaccurate doctrine." Just having finished a semester of studying the Reformation period, I understand this in spades. But the age old question, which the Reformers argued over was, who determines what is 'accurate' or 'inaccurate' doctrine? For some it was the Fathers of the Church, for others it was tradition, for others it was the interpretation of the words "This IS my body" and what "IS" meant. I would appreciate yours, Reformer Joe's, Hank's, Justme's, and others comments on how one determines "inaccurate doctrine." I do not want to foster an argument but am sincere in asking. It was distressing to read about all the martyrdom during the Reformation period and the treatise's that went back and forth over doctrinal issues. I continue to be distressed over how the Body of Christ argues over seemingly small issues. Thanks in advance to all who respond. For His Glory, Beensetfree |
