Bible Question: This question has to do with adoption. In the natural world in which we live, a couple may adopt a child without the child's consent. Is this also true of an unbeliever into the Kingdom of God? The unbeliever have nothing to say about his adoption. God's adoption of persons to become "heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ" is because of his love for the sinner. John 1:12 states that adopted status belongs to all who receive Christ. The adoption status cannot happen until the person is first justified. Galatians 3:26 "For you are all sons of God throught faith in Christ Jesus." Now there is adoption and regeneration. Adoption results in a new relationship with Christ, while regeneration is a change of our moral nature. When we are justified, adopted, regenerated, we are to take on His character, nature, and Holiness, and act accordingly. |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Rom 8:23; Gal 4:5; Eph 1:5 ... Jepson, A couple may adopt an infant without its consent, because they do not understand. However, when the child is older, the judge does ask the child if they want to be adopted by the one(s) who want to adopt them. I adopted my eldest when she was four. I married her mother and chose to adopt her. God wants to adopt us. We need to want to be adopted by Him. He will not force us to be adopted. As I thought about this, the "age of accountability" came to mind. Does this support the idea that infants go to be with the Lord? Hope this helps, Searcher |
