Bible Question (short): Do you have a say in being adopted? |
Question (full): This question has to do with adoption. In the natural world in which we live, a couple may adopt a child without the child's consent. Is this also true of an unbeliever into the Kingdom of God? The unbeliever have nothing to say about his adoption. God's adoption of persons to become "heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ" is because of his love for the sinner. John 1:12 states that adopted status belongs to all who receive Christ. The adoption status cannot happen until the person is first justified. Galatians 3:26 "For you are all sons of God throught faith in Christ Jesus." Now there is adoption and regeneration. Adoption results in a new relationship with Christ, while regeneration is a change of our moral nature. When we are justified, adopted, regenerated, we are to take on His character, nature, and Holiness, and act accordingly. |
