Subject: "Women being silent" |
Bible Note: Yesisa, Could rhat scripture also possibly be to that particular group of people alone. Could there possibly have been a group of women who were disrupting the study/teaching sessions by "usurping" the attention of all to give unbidden their own opinions? Looking at the cultural context, the roles of women in those days were quite different from today. To make society work, they remained in the home, taking care of home things and raising children. The men went aabout their jobs outside of the home, I would imagine that it would have been not much different then as in a synagogue today - if there is no one to look after the younsters, the women are expected to come by after the husband returns home (at least on the High Sabbaths) rather than take noisy children into the sanctuary, and on regular Sabbaths to just get the teaching from her husband at home. Could this be what was going on at that time? The Lord gave the first commission after the resurrection to "go and tell..." to a woman. Yedida |
