AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 13:5 ¶ Test and evaluate yourselves to see whether you are in the faith and living your lives as [committed] believers. Examine yourselves [not me]! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves [by an ongoing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test and are rejected as counterfeit? |
Bible Question:
What kind of things do and do not prove the genuineness of saving faith? This question is not about judging others. It is about testing OURSELVES to see if WE are in the faith. It is about examining OURSELVES, not others. |
Bible Answer: More from 1 John -- 1 John 2:3-7 says much the same thing that Jim succinctly quoted from James -- only John is more long-winded (which of course draws me personally to his writing ;-) By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, "I have come to know Him,'' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. (1 Jn 2:3-7) |
