NASB | 2 Corinthians 13:5 ¶ Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 13:5 ¶ Test and evaluate yourselves to see whether you are in the faith and living your lives as [committed] believers. Examine yourselves [not me]! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves [by an ongoing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test and are rejected as counterfeit? |
Bible Question:
What is the difference between backsliden and not really being saved. My husband asked Jesus into his heart and for a time he was a completely different person. I don't think he was acting or just trying on his own to be different, because the transformation was so dramatic. Now, he stll believes in God, but if I was a stranger looking at how he lived his life I would in no way think he was saved. Thanks |
Bible Answer: 'BACKSLIDING Term used by the prophets to describe Israel's faithlessness to God (Isaiah 57:17 RSV; Jeremiah 3:14,Jeremiah 3:22; Jeremiah 8:5; Jeremiah 31:22; Jeremiah 49:4; Hosea 11:7; Hosea 14:4). In these passages it is clear that Israel had broken faith with God by serving other gods and by living immoral lives. See "Apostasy".' (Holman Bible Dictionary, published by Broadman and Holman, 1991) Notice that "backsliding" describes ISRAEL'S faithlessness to God. The "church" is nowhere mentioned in the above definition, just as the word "backsliding" is not in the New Testament. |
