Subject: What is wrong? |
Bible Note: Mommapbs: Apparently I'm doing a poor job of explaining this. :-) So I'll give someone else a chance at it. NASB 2 Corinthians 12:13 For in what respect were you treated as inferior to the rest of the churches, except that I myself did not become a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong! 'Paul had not slighted the Corinthians except by refusing to be a burden. With a touch of irony, he begged their forgiveness for that "wrong."' (MacArthur Study Bible) "I myself did not become a burden to you." 'Paul's refusal to accept any payment when preaching the gospel to the Corinthians had been slanderously twisted by his adversaries. They, who had grasped at all they could get, were saying that it was he who had sinned against the Corinthians. "Forgive me this wrong." Irony -- resuming the line of discussion in 11:7-12.' (NASB Study Bible) "I myself was not burdensome to you:" 'The only fault of his ministry was that he showed them preferential treatment. To such ingratitude Paul's irony deals a mortal blow.' (The King James Study Bible, Nelson, 1988) Grace to you, Kalos |
