NASB | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. |
Subject: Receiving and accepting spiritual things |
Bible Note: Hi Mommapbs, I agree with all that you have said. I agree with all that I hear and all that I see in your capitalization. As far as things being Spiritually discerned, we do not have the mind of God that we can instruct Him. No one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. In my problems with spiritually discerning the things of John 4, for instance, it is a problem with the spirit of the words on the printed page. For I spiritually discern or appraise, while only God can Spiritually discern. We can only speak the things that the Spirit has taught us. 1 Corinthians 2:12, "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from (God), that we might KNOW THE THINGS FREELY GIVEN to us by God, which things we speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual [thoughts] with spiritual [words]. As far as the "natural man" this Scripture came to mind. 2 Corinthians 5:16, "Therefore from now on we recognize no man according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet we know Him [thus, in this way] no longer. Therefore, if any man [anyone] is in (Christ), he is a new creature [or, there is a new creation]; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all THESE THINGS ARE FROM God,..." 2 Corinthians 3:4, "And such confidence we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, nor of the letter, but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." But I think, believe, discern (even though I seek to be consistent in capitalization), that the Spirit gives life and also the spirit gives life. John 6:62, "What then if you should behold the Son of (Man) ascending where He was before? It is the *spirit [who, which] gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life." John 3:34, "For He whom God has sent speaks the words of (God); for He gives the *spirit without measure." He gives the spirit; He speaks the words that are spirit and life. All THESE THINGS are from God. From the heart, Ray |
