NASB | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. |
Bible Question (short): Receiving and accepting spiritual things |
Question (full): The NKJ in lieu of "accept" the things of the Spirit of God, reads, "But the natural man does not RECEIVE the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." By using the word receive, it suggests to me, referring back to verse 12, where it talks about receiving not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit [spirit] from God. For verses 12 and 14 I have penciled in my personal copy "spirit" for both verses. I do this because I believe that they are talking about the gift rather than the Giver. This goes along with my belief that we are to be filled with the "holy spirit"; but we are indwelt by God Himself at conversion. The Spirit Himself came upon Jesus but Jesus also was filled with the holy spirit. From the heart, Ray |
