Bible Note: Greetings Prayon! It is definitely good to have Charis back on the forum! It is good to hear from you as well! I understand your point. But, there does seem to be a distinction made in Scripture between the offices and the functions of both. Check out my response to Charis for a discussion about some of those issues. However, let me ask you a question which may clarify what I think Nolan and I are trying to say. Is the "revelation" given to a modern day "prophet or apostle" equal to or superior to the Bible? This is what those who are promoting the restoration of these two offices are saying! They don't need the Bible. God speaks to them directly. I have no problem with the gift of prophecy. However, I would immediately discount anyone who told me something that was not in harmony with Scripture. This is exactly what is happening. These people are claiming direct and "new" revelation from God. How do you argue with that? They can say or do anything they want because God "revealed" it to them. In extreme cases, it can get pretty frightening. When I was pastoring in Ohio, there was a pastor near us who got up one day and told his congregation that God had revealed to him that the church should buy him a new car. They did! A few months later, he got a 16 year old girl, in the church, pregnant. It is this potential for abuse that has me concerned. The canon has been closed. Salvation is a finished word on the cross. We need to go and make disciples, but I don't believe there will ever be any "new" revelation. I hope this clarifies what I was trying to say! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
