Bible Question:
The other day a lady wrote a question regarding the role of women in church. On tv the news compared the election of an openly-gay bishop to a similar scandal involving the appointment of the first female bishop. I was wondering why would a woamn bishop bring about a threat of separation between the episcopalan and anglican church. Then I cam accross 1 Cor 14:34-35 [34]Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Saith what law? Is this strictly for those who are under the law? Are women under Grace permitted to speak in church? Can somone explain this to me? Are women allowed to be leaders in church or not? The scriptures clearly say no. Why are women required to be silent and seek knowledge from their husbands? I am not trying to be sexist, I am trying to understand how we can justify having women preachers, bishops, and etc if it is against the scriptures. |
Bible Answer: Let's go back to Deborah the Woman Judge whom God has sent to lead and fight battles. Look at Esther who courageously saved a nation of Jews. God is calling for women, men, babies and whomever he chooses to use. It does not say that women are to keep silent in church because of leadership but because the man is the head of the woman. No woman is to be in debate with the man, husband, leader over her, fore-say. If you read the verse before that it says that God is not the author or confusion but of peace. That scripture is misquoted and misunderstood by so many people. The woman is not to be in conflict with her husband or leader inside of the church, but rather wait until you are in private with your husband and ask what she will. If women weren't permitted to say anything in church where would the men be? But I am an Evangelist in the church, I have been called to preach with the blessings of my Pastor. I do believe that God made man the head of the woman, but I also believe that God is pleased with His word going forth in any manner necessary. We also have to realize that all men are not the Priest of their home, so therefore the woman have become the head of the household when it comes to spiritual things. We also have to realize that there are widows who haven't a head over them like myself. There are also single women raising their children alone. So their are different situations and different outlooks in this scripture. If most men would drop the ego and pride act, they would see that God uses whomever He pleases and it's not our decision to go against it. |
