NASB | Romans 7:7 ¶ What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 7:7 ¶ What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, if it had not been for the Law, I would not have recognized sin. For I would not have known [for example] about coveting [what belongs to another, and would have had no sense of guilt] if the Law had not [repeatedly] said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET." [Ex 20:17; Deut 5:21] |

Bible Note: Thank you for your response. It does give more insight than the others, as no-one was really answering the question. By the way, I am not asserting that we were not made perfect; I believe we were, but had a difficult time reconciling how sin fit into the equation. I am posing the question as a point of reference for discussion. It's odd that you assume I won't find a satisfactory answer: Your answer is very satisfactory and... if you look below, Mark's answer really shed new light on what I was asking and made things much clearer for me. Your response seems to have a condescending overtone..I apologize if that is not the case. As a believer I want to equip myself with sufficient knowledge in order that I may give an answer when asked (as I have) about this issue by non-believers. This has been my intent in asking these questions. again, thank you for your very insightful response. In Christ, Carlos |
