Subject: Are christians sinners or not? |
Bible Note: Dear Retxar, The question was "Are christians sinners or not?" Your initial reply conluded: "There is a big difference between committing a sin out of weakness of the flesh, verses being one who practices sin, and thus IS a sinner." I read 1 John 3, as you suggested and believe that it shows that those who "practice" sin are not in Christ: 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. So, there is a distinction made between "practicing sinners" and saints who sin but do not make a practice of it. This has been obvious from the start in our discussion. My answer to the question on the table is: Yes, christians are sinners, and No they are not. It depends on the catagory or the kind of sinning referred to. Would you agree? Assuming you would, would you not also agree that non-believers (and perhaps baby christians) may easily be misled by the claim that christians are not sinners? My primary motivation is to caution those who answer that "christians are not sinners", to be sure to qualify their claim, lest they cause the unlearned to stumble. I would also exhort all of us to make our boast in the Lord. For without Him we can do nothing! God Bless, John |
