AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. |
Subject: HELP ME PLEASE...I am not content! |
Bible Note: Greetings Cajam! How do I feel? I believe that it is always possible for brothers in Christ to disagree without being disagreeable. I feel that you were wrong in your choice of words and in the spirit of your post. Why do I say that? Because, you don't know me. You don't know where I stand with Christ. To make a blanket judgement of me because I disagree with your interpretation of Scripture is inappropriate. But, I am not interested in an insincere apology. If you really feel led to do so, fine! If not, I'll survive. Either way, I do not hold grudges my friend! :-) As far as the rules of the forum are concerned, that is not my call! :-) I partially agree and disagee with your last post though. While I don't see Mt. 28:19 as being a 'necessary' formula, without which baptism is meaningless, I don't see how one could argue that Jesus didn't really intend for them to use the phrase at all. If He had meant that one must baptize only in Jesus name, He could have very simply said, 'Baptizing in the name of Jesus'. But, He didn't say that. Now, as you correctly note, we don't see any examples in Acts where the entire phrase is used in baptism. However, we also don't have the verbatim text from any baptisms at all. So, it could very well be that the Apostles did in fact use the extact phrase of Mt. 28:19, but in narrative passages simply refer to the name of Jesus. Do you follow what I mean? The passages in Acts are not verbatim quotes of baptismal services. The verses in question refer to baptism, but do not give us the actual 'quotes' from the baptisms.
