Subject: Is Salvation only through Jesus Christ? |
Bible Note: Johnny: You wrote: "Prophets of old testaments indeed never heard Jesus Christ, do we consider them go to hell?" The Bible says: "As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things into which angels long to look." --1 Peter 1:9-11 Prophets of old never heard the NAME Jesus Christ, perhaps, but God did reveal a coming redemption. As the Old Testament period progressed, we go from the most general revelation of the gospel (Genesis 3:15) to the more specific promises/covenant with Abram (Genesis 12, 15), the promise that through Judah's line there will come the everlasting king, the foreshadowing of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world in the Mosaic sacrificial laws, the promise to David that his throne will be everlasting, etc. etc. Both Testaments are all about Jesus Christ, from shadow in the Old Testament to complete revelation and fucfillment in the New. One gospel, one way of salvation for all mankind in all times. Believing in God's promise of blessing and redemption has always been what is credited to us as righteousness. It was the way Abraham was forgiven of all of his sins (and there were some doozies in there), and it is the same way that I and every other co-heir with Christ are forgiven of ours. --Joe! |
