Subject: To be saved must we be baptised? |
Bible Note: Greetings Disciplerami! You are still comparing apples and oranges my friend! No one disputes that Greek can use parenthetical statements. The parenthetical statement in Acts 2:8 is 'each of us'. Take out this parenthetical statement and the verse is perfectly clear. "How is it that we are hearing in the dialect in which we were born?" The parenthetical phrase 'each of us' simply stresses that each indvidual was hearing. However, there are no verbs or pronouns associated with 'each of us' which differ in number. In other words, the verse does not say: "Each (singular) of us are hearing (plural)." It says, "We are hearing (both plural)", which phrase is then modified by the addition of 'each of us'. This simply doesn't support your position on Acts 2:38, no matter how many times you repeat it. It would be like saying in English: "I says to you." The 'I' doesn't agree with the verb in number and is ungrammatical. Your postion on Acts 2:38 does the same thing! By the way, thanks for the kind words! :-) We grandpa's have to stick together!
