Bible Question (short): The purposes of God? |
Question (full): I was looking at the "purpose of God" and comparing Scriptures this morning. I have this question for our Greek students today. It concerns the translated words "He Himself"; for instance John 2:25 and John 6:66. The NASB has He Himself for both verses and the NKJ has it rendered that way only for John 6:6. Are there any rules or guidelines that can help us to be consistent in this translating? Personally, I would leave off the "Himself". John 6:6, "And this He was saying to test him; for He/ knew what He was intending to do." John 2:25, "and because He/ did not need anyone to bear witness concerning man for He knew what was in man." Zechariah 8:14, "For thus says the Lord/ of hosts, 'Just as I PURPOSED to do harm to you when your fathers provoked Me to wrath,'..." John 1:43, "The next day He PURPOSED to go forth into Galilee,..." He/ knew what He was intending to do and the purposes of God will be accomplished. From the heart, Ray |
