Bible Question:
In the Andes and Tim, you mentioned 2 and 5, what about the other three? Mark 16:17-18 says "And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: in My name 1. they will drive out demons; 2. they will speak in new languages 3. they will pick up serpents; 4. and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; 5. they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well." Are the other three discarded? Searcher |
Bible Answer: Greetings Searcher! I don't accept the text of Mark 16:9-20 as original, so it is hard to comment on this particular passage. However, I believe the basic principles are valid today as expressed in the following: 1) The ability to drive out demons. 2) The Gift of Tongues. 3) Divine protection. 4) The Gift of Healing. These are all Biblical. I don't see any indication in Scripture that they have ceased to be valid for today. The only one specifically mentioned as ceasing at some point is the gift of tongues. However, Scripture simply says that they will cease when that which is perfect has come. Some believe this a reference to the Bible. Myself, I think it is a reference to the fullness of the Kingdom of God. We won't need any of the gifts of the Spirit then! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
