NASB | John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 3:3 Jesus answered him, "I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a person is born again [reborn from above--spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified], he cannot [ever] see and experience the kingdom of God." |
Subject: "Born-again Christian" redundant? |
Bible Note: Robert, my Canadian brother in the Lord, let me assure you that even though we may have a variance of viewpoint on what "water" may mean in this passage from John 3, it is not a divisive one by any means. We agree on the crucial question: that Jesus is not teaching that water baptism is a sine qua non of salvation. Moreover, we agree on the role of the Spirit in effecting our regeneration. Hence, the arena of our agreement is enormously large; of our disagreement, infinitesimally small. --Hank |
