Bible Question: What does the word"believe"involve |
Bible Answer: Ah my favorite word. Our word Believe is used to translate the Greek word "Pisteuo" Pisteuo to the Greek meant to trust in to the point of dependence. To get a full understanding of that let me give this example. I want to mountain climb so I go the local Mountain climbing supply store and buy a rope. The clerk there looks at me and says, "you are a big boy (actually it is all muscle :-)) so you need a rope that will support a 3000 lbs just to be sure." I buy the rope and I believe the rope will hold me, but this isn't "Pisteuo belief). Now I go to the mountain and tie the rope to huge boulder with some really good Boy Scout knots. I pull and tug on the rope and I'm of the belief this rope will hold me, but that still isn't "Pisteuo" belief. I tie the rope around my waist and I lean against it and tug at it and it holds. Now I'm sure I believe this rope will hold me. However this still isn't "Pisteuo" beleif. Finally I go to the edge of the cliff and standing at the edge and lean over depending on the rope to hold me. That is pisteuo belief. I so believed that I became dependant on it. Many believe in Jesus Christ but their belief is mere head knowledge. We are not saved until we depend on Jesus Christ for our salvation. That is Pisteuo belief. Hope this helps. |
