Bible Question: How do we as beleivers handle a family member living in sin? Should we attend a dinner at their house? I want to walk in love but I have a daughter the same age and want to make sure I am a good example |
Bible Answer: Dear Diane, Scripture does tell us to avoid some sinners; e.g., dogs and swine (Matthew 7:6), false teachers (2 John 10-11), those under church discipline (1 Corinthians 5:11), etc. Aside from that, though, we are under no command to avoid the lost provided we do not compromise our growth in holiness, nor appear to condone their profane living. What you will find, though, is that the closer you walk with the Lord, the more the lost will show a growing ambivalence toward you. You see, on the one hand there will be a winsomeness associated with godliness, but on the other hand our lives continuous repudiation of their lives (1 Peter 4:3-4). Our primary purpose is to bring glory to God. Consequently, every relationship -- whether with the lost or the saved -- is always and continually factored into that context. In Him, Doc |
