Bible Question:
Question for Church of Christ. Is faith, or belief, necessary for salvation? |
Bible Answer: These words are almost synonymous. Since faith is probably more associated with "trust", however, I would have to say both are necessary. There is an interesting interaction between God's grace, which leads to our faith which is then evidenced by our works that are in keeping with God's will. Obedience validates salvation. That means that baptism plays a part as well. It alone does not "save us" per se (even though 1 Peter 3:21 could mislead some to believe) but it is a necessary part in the process of being saved. The Bible always assumes that believers have been baptized (we're talking full immersion here) so people today walk thin ice when they deny its necessity. Some verses going a long with all this are: Ephesians 2:8-10 James 2:14-26 John 14:15 Matthew 7:21-23 1 John 2:3-6 For baptism see: Acts 2:38, Acts 8:26-40, Romans 6:3-4, Galatians 3:27 Hope this helps, Keith Davis reach me at springelhaus@yahoo.com if you like |
