Bible Note: Hi Mommapbs, The Mattew 16:15 passage is interesting if you want to look at it today. It is helpful to look at it in a Greek Interlinear or two, or three. 1) Of most interest to my mind is the pronoun "Me" found in verses 13 and 15. I believe that it is important to include it in our interpretation. Matthew 16:13, NASB, "...Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" Matthew 16:13, NKJ, "...Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" Matthew 16:13, Green's Literal Translation, "Whom do men say Me the Son of Man to be?" So I would go with the NKJ for its English and the Literal Translation for its inclusion of the Greek "Me". So I believe that the Lockman Foundation should reconsider this verse; (and you know I love the NASB.) 2) Matthew 16:15, "NASB, NKJ, "...But who do you say that I am?" Matthew 16:15, Green's Literal Translation, "... But you, who do you say Me to be?" 3) I believe that God, the One in heaven revealed the answer to Simon Peter, verse 17. 4) The variance of the manuscripts and the translations for verses 20 and 21 show that all of this has been discussed before. But we know that He is Jesus the Christ. He is the Messiah, the Expected One. Matthew 16:21, NASB, "From that time Jesus Christ began to show His disciples that..." From the heart, Ray |
