Bible Question: Did Jesus go to the temple to learn or to teach the priests at 12 years old? |
Bible Answer: Hi ljw9292, In response to your two questions of why Jesus waited until He was thirty years of age to begin His ministry and the suggestion here that He actually started much earlier: 1) The Greek, as is suggested in the [His ministry] in the Amplified version above, really to my mind anyway is saying that when He was about thirty years of age people were regarding Him as the Son [sic] of Joseph. When that was accomplished, then He could begin His ministry. It was not that all of a sudden at thirty years of age He became the Son of God and the Son of Man. He was God with us even as a Child. 2) I believe that the priests in the temple were taught of God. John 6:45, "Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me." They (the priests and parents) were taught of God, but they did not understand the statement which He had made to them. Luke 2:49, "Did you not know that I had to be in My Father's house?" [Or, did you not know that I had to be in the things of My Father?] This Child, this second Adam, was the Son of God. Luke 3:38. From the heart, Ray |
