Bible Question:
Is there really any "peace on earth?" So often I hear these words at Christmastime, but how does this verse compare to what Jesus said about His coming in Matthew 10:34 (Luke 12:51),"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." ? How might the world confuse the peace that God offers? Is this peace conditional? ("among men with who He is pleased")I believe there is much to think about in this familiar verse that transcends the "Christmas Story." What are your thoughts? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Mommapbs! In Matthew 24 Jesus talks about the coming of times--there is no peace in the hands of humanity. But there is a peace on earth, it is Christ's own peace (John 14:27) and Paul reminds us of this in 1 Thessalonians 5:3. Remember how intelligent and wise the Masters of the Law, Pharisees, Sadducees, etc. thought they were? They remove the stumbling stone and were headed for long lasting peace... but Jesus had prophesied that the Temple would be totally destroyed (a military assult on the Temple would cause the greatest devastation and upheaval)--it happened in 70AD! They did not seek Jesus' everlasting peace so they missed the boat! God Bless! |
