Bible Note: Hello Ken, That's twice now that you've called me Baptistic. Should I be pleased or insulted? :-) Too vague and legalistic? How about this? Romans 9:4 (ESV) They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. Here Paul explains that only the Jews had God's truth, and only the Jews were in God's favor. It's true that Jesus never mentions these things, but the point He was talking to the Pharisees about money (Luke 16:14) and was making a point that riches won't do any good if you're not using it rightly and going to hell. Sure a contrite heart has value: Psalm 51:17 (ESV) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Steve |
